A Few Words About

Jim CARROLL

Jim Carroll, FCA, is an internationally recognized expert on the "wired world" and Internet, a popular media authority, keynote speaker and business consultant. Named as one of the "new mandarins of the digital revolution" by the Financial Post Magazine, he is noted for his ability to put the future into perspective in crystal clear terms.

A prolific author, his books have now sold in excess of 700,000 copies, a testament to his popularity. His most recent work, Light Bulbs to Yottabits: How to Profit by Understanding the Internet of the Future, takes stock, with no little amount of amazement, of the mind-blowing technological advancements that have taken place over the last five years, and takes a look forward to predict even more astounding developments over the next five years. His other new book, Selling Online: How to Be a Successful E-Commerce Merchant has been officially endorsed and sponsored by VISA, a testament to his respect in the e-commerce industry. Released into the US market in the spring of 2001, it has also been translated into French and German.

In addition to his critically acclaimed book, Surviving the Information Age, a motivational work that encourages people to cope with the future, he has co-authored twenty four other books, including the national #1 bestseller, the Canadian Internet Handbook. His books have focussed on the impact of what he calls the "wired world" and have examined topics as diverse as the financial industry, health care and education, as well as examining how small business can take advantage of technology. As a testament to his insight, in 1994, when most people were still trying to figure out how to get onto the Internet, he was busy writing a book focussing on how business could position itself for success in the wired economy.

Jim is the host of "e-Biz with Jim Carroll," a national radio show that focuses on the e-biz opportunity. He has also hosted many other radio/audio programs, including a pioneering Internet radio show during 1994-1995 known as NetTalk, and "dot.commerce with Jim Carroll," a one hour audio broadcast featured on all Air Canada/Canadian Airlines flights worldwide.

Jim's views are much sought after by the media. He has been featured and is quoted regularly and extensively in a wide variety of national print media, television and radio shows. He has conducted more than 2,000 interviews over the last six years on the topics of e-commerce, e-biz and the Internet.

Mr. Carroll also writes on a regular basis for the media. His popular weekly e-biz / Digital Survivor column in the Globe & Mail Report on Business has gained a widespread international following for its perspectives on the impact of technology, the Internet and e-commerce. He writes for many other publications, with the result that he was named as one of "50 International Names to Know" by the Online Journalism Review, a widely respected international publication that examines the future of journalism in the Internet-age.

Jim Carroll has rapidly emerged as one of North America's leading keynote speakers, providing motivating and challenging presentations for tens of thousands of people at annual conferences, meetings, corporate events, and seminars. A small sample of clients include organizations such as NCR, the US Committee on State Taxation, the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, the Cleveland World Trade Center, the International Lawyers Network, the Electronic Transaction Association, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Florida, AccPac International, Monsanto, Deloitte & Touche, E*Trade, Ameritech, AT&T, Sprint, the American Marketing Association, Excel Switching Corp, Nortel Networks, Ingram Micro, IBM, Remax, the Royal Bank of Canada, Canadian Institute of Underwriters, Royal LePage, Rogers AT&T, BCE, the Canadian Institute of Mortgage Brokers and Lenders, and countless others.

A Chartered Accountant by background, he has over twelve years of experience in the world's largest public accounting firm. He has a solid business and financial background in all major business, government and industry sectors. He was recently honored by the professional body which represents his profession by being named an FCA (Fellow of the Chartered Accountants Institute), which is given to those who exhibit outstanding performance within their career.

Through his consulting firm, J.A. Carroll Consulting, he has provided professional services to many Fortune 500 organizations. He excels at helping senior management map out a truly effective strategy for doing business in the new economy. His specialty is helping organizations gain strategic insight into the implications and opportunities of the wired economy at an executive level, and assisting organizations in articulating and achieving those strategic goals and visions. His clients have included George Weston's, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Hiram Walker, Unilever, Air Canada, Harlequin and many others.
